The architecture of Vilnius and the variety of its styles perfectly demonstrate how this Central European city has developed historically. The old town of Vilnius was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994, because Vilnius is a great example of a medieval city that over the course of several centuries had a great influence on the development of Eastern European architecture and culture, and besides, the architectural landscape of Vilnius and the preserved variety of buildings perfectly show how organically the city developed over five centuries (13-18 centuries).
